Floating + ABC Therapy: Better Health and Less Pain

Six Innovative Treatments for Lyme Disease
Natural Ways to Manage Mild-to-Moderate Depression
What the Mind Believes, the Body Can Conceive

Pain manifests itself in many ways and is often a signal that something is out of balance. Now is the time to put your body and mind back into harmony. Floating and Advanced BioStructural Correction (ABC) are two powerful therapies and when combined, they generate tremendous health benefits.

Floating for Chronic Pain
Floating involves entering a float pod containing 10 inches of water and 1,000 pounds of pharmaceutical grade magnesium sulfite. When you float, your body can absorb up to 27% of the recommended daily amount of this much-needed mineral. Oral supplements cannot provide this quantity of magnesium.

Restricted environmental stimulation technique (REST), more commonly known as floating, has been around for many years. However, it has only been in the past 20 years that in-depth research has been conducted to determine the extent that floatation has on chronic pain, autoimmune diseases, muscular diseases, PTSD, stress, anxiety, and depression.

Due to the weightlessness and sensory restriction experience in the float tank, floatation therapy can aid with relief of pain associated with rheumatoid arthritis, chronic osteoarthritis, sports-related injuries, migraines, back and joint pain, fibromyalgia, tendonitis, bursitis, and traumatic injuries. Removing the weight generated from gravity, floating helps relieve chronic pain, allowing the pressure on the spine to release and increasing blood flow to areas in need of healing, helping to stimulate the body’s own natural power of healing and regeneration.

The experience of weightlessness and sensory reduction triggers the body to produce elevated levels of endorphins and enkephalins, which help to deal with pain. In particular, beta-endorphins are released, which are more powerful than many prescription drugs. These natural painkillers block the transmission of pain signals at the level of nerve cells and may be more effective coupled with the pressure release of weightlessness and improved blood flow.

The reticular activating system (RAS) found in the brain stem, normally responsible for alerting the body to fight or flight responses and for regulating pain sensations, turns its focus away from external stimuli and begins focusing on internal stimuli. This redirection of the RAS toward internal stimuli allows you to lose the sensation of being connected to the body. Floating also stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for the relaxation response. The release of tension in the body and lowering of stress hormones may also be responsible for the pain relief. Moreover, pain relief associated with floating allows those suffering from chronic pain to break the cycle of pain depression, enabling improved healing.

Floating and ABC Therapy
The pharmaceutical grade magnesium sulfite utilized in floating solves the significant problem of magnesium deficiency (studies show 80% of the population is deficient in magnesium). Another primary issue people suffer from is mechanical—the body can and does get misaligned in a way that it cannot self-correct. This specific misalignment is when any vertebra from the base of the neck down to L5 (the last movable bone in the spine) becomes misaligned in the forward direction, and we do not have a muscle or a combination of muscles that can correct this misalignment. As a result, the whole body twists up slightly to compensate for this mechanical problem. Over the course of a lifetime the body compensates in many ways, with many layers of compensation, leading to many different physical problems. Headaches, back and neck pain, joint pain, tight muscles, difficulty breathing, nerve tension, and poor posture are some examples of conditions created by these mechanical problems.

Dr. Brian E. Huffman, DC, located within the Cloud9 Float Spa & Wellness Center, specializes in advanced biostructural correction (ABC) therapy, which is designed to correct the primary issue of misalignment, allowing his patients’ bodies to release or “unwind” and resulting in relief and improved resting posture. When ABC treatments are combined with floating, the body experiences relief and greatly improved health. Floating combined with ABC therapy is an easy, natural, and enjoyable way to free yourself from chronic pain without the use of drugs or invasive techniques.
